Biography for Naomi Whetzel
|
I grew up the seventh in a family of nine children. Nine kids, Mother and Daddy, always one grandparent and sometimes two; how could I not love and care for children and the elderly? My life’s work consisted of caring for the newborn through the gamut of age to 107 years old. Do you ask why I picked up the challenge of providing for the elderly when Allegan County funding was discontinued in 2004 and 2005? With the help of many learned people and two special friends, I set about getting a dedicated Senior Millage on an Allegan County ballot. When it passed two to one in 2006, an Allegan County Commission on Aging was established - of which I’m a charter member.
I married in my teens, fresh out of high school. I shared with the “Love of My Life” the upbringing of a son and daughter who are the Light of My Life. Barry was an Automotive Technician in Ford Motor Company franchises for 35 years. Donna is a professional fund raiser for the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA.
Just for kicks, I serve on the Specialized Services Local Advisory Committee for Allegan County Transportation and the Policy Advisory Council for Meals on Wheels and Congregate Meals thru A.C.R.D.C. I also taught kindergarten in Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, where I still call Home.
