Biography for Doris Hawkey
|
I’m Doris Hawkey of Martin and other than high school and the “school of hard knocks,” I’ve had no other formal education. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for seniors and people with special needs. I have volunteered at nursing homes, etc., and inspired my Girl Scout troop to become interested in helping them also. At this time, I care for a couple in Otsego.
I was very honored and humbled when asked to fill out an application for the Allegan County Commission on Aging. At my church in Martin, I’m the Chairperson of a senior ministry called "The Christian Care and Share Team." We try to help seniors with rides and meals or any service they may need. Our team also puts on a nice hot meal and social time once a month.
My goal in life is to make the best life we can for our seniors in any way the A.C.C.O.A. can, and I feel very blessed and fulfilled as a member of the Allegan County Commission on Aging.
